Building Green

Building green is catching on, but what is it really? Simply put, greenbuilding is a holistic approach that aims to reduce the energy required to build and operate a healthy home while also paying close attention to all the details of material and equipment selection to source these sustainably.

Greenbuilding involves thinking carefully in planning, design and building phases to make intelligent, informed choices, to be as green as you want to be. Ultimately this process produces a better, healthier, more comfortable, energy-efficient home.

Various greenbuilding scorecards can help guide you through this process whether the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED program (www.usgbc.org) or others such as Colorado's Built Green approach (www.builtgreen.org). Third party certification is an option if you are serious about proving how green you are.

Some basic design principles and renewable energy systems play critical roles in greenbuilding and reducing your energy use and carbon footprint.

Our experience with greenbuilding materials, sources, systems and scorecards can demystify the process and help you create the home you want.
